Machine Stitch Multipliers
- Lockstitch (2.5x): Consumes 2.5 yards of thread per yard of seam (split evenly between top needle and bobbin).
- Sergers / Overlock (12x–14x): Loopers consume huge amounts of thread. A single garment with overlocked seams often uses 200–300 meters of looper thread alone.
The Math Formula
• Thread Length = Seam Length × Stitch Multiplier × 1.15 buffer
• Total Spools = Ceil(Thread Length ÷ Spool Capacity)
• Total Spools = Ceil(Thread Length ÷ Spool Capacity)
